The latest edition of the RBP GCF REDD+ Central Sulawesi Newsletter highlights practical experiences and achievements in strengthening forest governance, expanding Social Forestry, protecting forest landscapes, and enhancing the implementation of REDD+ safeguards across Central Sulawesi.
KEMITRAAN is pleased to announce the publication of the May-June 2026 edition of the RBP GCF REDD+ Central Sulawesi Newsletter, featuring the theme “Governance as the Foundation of Climate Action.” This edition presents key achievements, lessons learned, and good practices from the implementation of the RBP GCF REDD+ Programme in Central Sulawesi, demonstrating how transparent, participatory, and accountable governance supports sustainable forest management and climate action.
The newsletter showcases collaborative efforts among local governments, Forest Management Units (FMUs), communities, and development partners in protecting forests while improving local livelihoods. Featured stories include the proposal of 1,144 hectares of Social Forestry in Banggai Laut, capacity strengthening for 58 Social Forestry groups across Central Sulawesi, and forest protection patrols that contributed to law enforcement against illegal gold mining activities.
This edition also highlights initiatives to strengthen the implementation of the REDD+ Safeguards Information System (SIS REDD+) through a knowledge exchange visit to East Kalimantan. In addition, readers will find an inspiring story from Mata Village in the Banggai Islands, where a woman village leader has mobilised her community to protect forests and safeguard vital water sources for future generations.
Through these stories, the newsletter demonstrates that effective climate action is driven not only by policies and investments but also by strong institutions, meaningful partnerships, and empowered local communities. These elements are essential to ensuring long-term environmental sustainability while delivering tangible benefits to people who depend on forest ecosystems.
