Inclusive Democracy

Democracy can lead to prosperity when it strengthens both its procedural and deliberative dimensions.

Since 2000, KEMITRAAN has been advancing inclusive democracy by supporting mechanisms for free and fair elections, while also emphasizing the importance of citizen engagement through deliberation and public discourse in development processes and in improving public services—from the national to the village level.

Inclusive democracy involves all governance actors—government, civil society, and the private sector. This includes strengthening their capacities to ensure that collaborative initiatives can be continuously optimized, leaving no one behind in the nation-building process.

The quality of public participation in a democratic system can be reflected in:

  • transparent and accountable political parties,
  • an electoral system that produces competent leaders,
  • decentralization that addresses regional challenges,
  • improved delivery of public services,
  • the effective functioning of Civil Society Organizations (CSOs), and a private sector that operates with accountability.
