Pekalongan, November 30, 2023 – KEMITRAAN in collaboration with the Pekalongan City Government, Central Java through the Pekalongan Adaptation Fund (AF) Program always strives to increase the resilience of Pekalongan’s coastal communities in an effort to deal with the impacts of climate change and natural disasters. This is done through the development of infrastructure and supporting facilities for economic empowerment.
Pekalongan Mayor Achmad Afzan Arslan Djunaid or Aaf inaugurated the development of infrastructure and supporting facilities marked by groundbreaking in the Pekalongan Mangrove Park area on Thursday (30/11/2023). The project includes the construction of bathing and washing facilities, integrated waste management sites, breakwater, ecotourism support buildings, as well as community economic empowerment programs through urban farming and sylvofishery.
“This groundbreaking is a concrete manifestation of the joint commitment between the Pekalongan City Government and KEMITRAAN,” said Aaf.
The historic signing ceremony was also attended by representatives from the Directorate General of Climate Change Control of the Ministry of Environment and Forestry (Dirjen PPI – KLHK) Nurul Muslikah. Through her speech, Nurul said that KLHK will always support the implementation of the AF Pekalongan program and is committed to continue to be actively involved in monitoring in the field.
Meanwhile, KEMITRAAN Executive Director Laode M Syarif emphasized his joint commitment to realizing sustainable development. He said that
“This event is a symbol of our commitment to infrastructure development, and we sincerely hope that the licensing process will be completed soon to ensure rapid development realization. We appreciate the name change of PIM to PMP, which is expected to spark economic improvement and environmental preservation,” said Syarif.
“The smooth process of UF, Wanamina, MCK, and TPST is also our hope. The AF Pekalongan program is expected to be a trigger and pilot for the allocation of climate change adaptation funds, especially with the good news that the Green Climate Fund approved assistance for 3 districts and 1 city in Central Java. We hope that KEMITRAAN can expand the benefits of the AF program, while expressing our gratitude for the community’s support,” Syarif said.
The event was then followed by a symbolic groundbreaking and inscription signing by key parties including KEMITRAAN Executive Director Laode M Syarif, Pekalongan Mayor Achmad Afzan Arslan Djunaid, Pekalongan City DPRD Chairman Mohamad Azmi Basyir, Central Java Provincial Secretary Sarworini and Director General of PPI – KLHK Representative Nurul Muslikah.
This infrastructure development project and means of economic empowerment in Pekalongan has made significant progress. In December, the construction of communal toilets will begin, which is the first step in creating infrastructure that supports community life. Then, from January to March 2024, the project will enter the construction phase of the breakwater, and supporting facilities for economic empowerment such as urban farming and ecotourism.
The groundbreaking and signing of the inscription symbolizes a serious commitment to realize holistic development in various sectors. These projects not only deliver physical infrastructure, but also affirm the determination to improve the welfare of the community through economic empowerment programs and synergies between the public and private sectors to create sustainable positive change in Pekalongan City.
