The Adaptation Fund (AF) is an international funding agency for developing countries to take action on climate change adaptation. Since 2016, KEMITRAAN has become a National Implementing Entity (NIE) which is the only non-profit organization that has received accreditation from AF in Indonesia. The accreditation is the result of cooperation between the Adaptation Fund and the Director General of Climate Change Control of the Indonesian Ministry of Environment and Forestry (Dirjen PPI KLHK) as the Designated Authority (DA). KEMITRAAN is mandated as the National Implementing Entity (NDA) that distributes and manages funds and supervises local organizations or also known as the Executing Entity (EE) that carry out activities related to climate change adaptation issues in Indonesia. Since 2019, AF-KEMITRAAN Batch 1 has been working with local government agencies in Indonesia and civil society in five provinces.

ABOUT THE PROGRAM

Background

Climate change has turned into a global emergency issue that threatens many lives in the last three decades. Several studies have shown that there has been a global temperature increase of 2.7 degrees Celsius this century. The increase in temperature at the end of this century has caused massive damage on earth and resulted in many natural disasters. Countries around the world, including Indonesia, have agreed to jointly reduce the impact of climate change. One of the ways is to run climate change adaptation programs in affected areas in Indonesia.

Objectives

The purpose of the Adaptation Fund Program is to support the Indonesian government in its efforts to reduce the impacts of climate change through a bottom-up local approach. Therefore, the current program is expected to increase the adaptation capacity and role of Indonesian communities based on economic resilience and sustainable livelihoods, social resilience, and ecosystem and landscape resilience. Collaborative and participatory approaches are at the core of this program.
