The 4th edition of the RBP GCF REDD+ Output 2 newsletter in Central Sulawesi highlights stories on tenure conflict resolution, ProKlim development, and forest utilization. These stories come not only from government officials, but also from communities collaborating with the private sector to develop forest-based economic activities.
From the government side, the program accelerated the proposal process for ProKlim at the district/municipal level to ensure that villages categorized as climate-vulnerable can strengthen their resilience.
Through KPH Pulau Peling, the program also carried out identification and mapping of potential tenure conflicts frequently occurring in forest areas, whether due to overlapping land claims, non-compliant use of forest resources, or boundary issues. The program discussed participatory conflict-resolution strategies by involving communities as key actors in forest management.
For forest protection and security, KPH Balantak and local communities worked together to prevent illegal logging activities, aiming to safeguard forests from unlawful and unprocedural exploitation.
From the perspective of Social Forestry (PS) managers and Forest Business Groups (KUPS), activities began with facilitating three forest farmer groups (HKm and HD) in the socialization of SIPPUH issuance, an obligatory requirement for forest product utilization permits, based on the Ministry of Environment and Forestry Regulation P.78/MENLHK/SETJEN/KUM.1/10/2019 on the Administration of Non-Timber Forest Products from State Forests. KPH Toili Baturube has taken significant steps to ensure that forest-based enterprises operate with proper procedures and contribute to improving community welfare.
These efforts successfully fostered cooperation between the private sector and three KUPS groups in rattan and damar utilization. This collaboration elevated the KUPS class status from Gold to the higher Platinum level. KEMITRAAN, as the implementing partner of the RBP GCF REDD+ Output 2 program carried out by BPDLH, the Ministry of Forestry, the Ministry of Environment, and the Provincial Government of Central Sulawesi, recognizes these joint initiatives as part of strengthening governance actors across the region.
KEMITRAAN believes that prosperity can be achieved more quickly when all actors participate meaningfully in local governance processes, including collective efforts in forest protection and enhancing the economic well-being of communities living around forest areas.
