JAKARTA – KEMITRAAN has provided full support to the Ministry of Administrative and Bureaucratic Reform (PAN-RB) in drafting Regulation No. 17 of 2024 on conflict of interest management. The regulation was officially enacted and disseminated during its inaugural event held at the Mulia Hotel, Senayan, Jakarta, on Wednesday (18/12/2024). The event was attended by the Minister of PAN-RB, Rini Widyantini.
In her remarks, Rini expressed her appreciation to all parties who worked tirelessly to draft the regulation. She emphasized that this regulation would serve as a guideline for ministries and agencies to create more technical rules, noting that unmanaged conflicts of interest have a high potential to lead to corruption.
Previously, Regulation No. 37 of 2012 on General Guidelines for Handling Conflicts of Interest had been deemed insufficiently operational to guide ministries or agencies in managing conflicts of interest. The new Regulation No. 17 of 2024 updates and enhances the previous rules, aiming to simplify the bureaucracy’s approach to addressing conflicts of interest and preventing corruption.
“This regulation on conflict of interest management is a crucial part of our efforts to prevent corruption,” stated Rini.
KEMITRAAN’s Executive Director, Laode M. Syarif, echoed Rini’s sentiments, emphasizing the regulation’s potential contribution to managing conflicts of interest and its broader impact on corruption prevention. He also expressed hope that the regulation would foster ethical and integrity-driven behavioral changes within the bureaucracy.
Syarif noted that having clear regulations governing conflicts of interest would make it easier for the bureaucracy to prevent corruption, as bureaucrats would only need to adhere to established rules to reject practices that lead to corruption.
The dissemination of the new regulation included representatives from various ministries and agencies, who eagerly sought clarification on how to implement the regulation within their respective institutions.
“This regulation marks a significant milestone in Indonesia’s efforts to prevent corruption. We should all take pride in the issuance of Regulation No. 17 of 2024,” Syarif concluded in his closing remarks.
