PEKALONGAN – KEMITRAAN, with support from the Adaptation Fund, alongside the Pekalongan City Government, inaugurated the first Integrated Waste Management Facility (TPST) in the City of Batik on Friday (10/1/2025). This marks a historic moment as Pekalongan previously had no TPST. The facility, named Mitra Brayan Resik, is located in Kuripan Kertoharjo Village, South Pekalongan District, Pekalongan City.
“We are very pleased that Pekalongan now has an advanced TPST. This facility is essential for building an environmentally friendly city,” said Pekalongan City Secretary, Nur Priyantomo, during his speech at the inauguration of Mitra Brayan Resik TPST on Friday (10/1/2025).
Previously, Pekalongan only had the Degayu Final Disposal Site (TPA), which accommodated waste from across the city. Waste was merely piled up, creating new problems such as unpleasant odors. During the dry season, waste accumulation posed a fire risk due to high methane gas levels.
The establishment of Mitra Brayan Resik TPST in Pekalongan is a solution to these environmental challenges. The facility also has the potential to generate new economic opportunities, as recycled plastic waste still holds economic value and can be utilized as industrial raw materials.
KEMITRAAN’s Executive Director, Laode M. Syarif, expressed similar sentiments. He stated that KEMITRAAN is always ready to collaborate with central and local governments to address climate issues, including waste management. With the presence of Mitra Brayan Resik TPST, he hopes Pekalongan will become more resilient in facing climate change.
“With support from the Adaptation Fund, KEMITRAAN is currently managing several climate adaptation programs across various regions, including Pekalongan. We hope this collaboration continues,” said Syarif.
For context, Mitra Brayan Resik TPST is built on a 1,070-square-meter plot owned by the Pekalongan City Government. The facility can accommodate 10 tons of waste per day, with a maximum processing capacity of 45 cubic meters. It is also equipped with a Wastewater Treatment Plant (IPAL) to prevent environmental contamination.
Additionally, the TPST is equipped with advanced machinery, including waste separators, plastic pressing machines, organic pellet-making machines, and an incinerator. These machines will sort organic and inorganic waste for further processing. Inorganic waste that can be processed will be recycled, while non-recyclable waste will be incinerated. Organic waste will be processed into compost.
The operation of Mitra Brayan Resik TPST will involve collaboration between the Pekalongan City Government and local communities. A management team of 20 people has already been recruited and trained in waste processing techniques.
