RADARBEKASI.ID, SEMARANG – The issue of climate change among young people is not yet popular and has not become a serious concern. In fact, the impact has been felt, especially in a number of coastal areas on the north coast of Java with frequent sea level rises resulting in tidal floods.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

To raise awareness of climate change, a program entitled Youth Camp 2024 was held by KEMITRAAN in collaboration with the Ministry of Environment (KLHK) and the Central Java Provincial Government. The activity took place August 9-11 in Bandungan, Semarang Regency.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The participants came from six regions, namely Pekalongan City, Pekalongan Regency, Semarang City, Tegal City, Demak Regency and Batang Regency.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The participants from the six regions were invited to understand climate change, which should be their daily problem.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

They were invited to understand it through simulation games and art and cultural performances.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Thus, heavy topics such as climate change can be understood easily and become their daily conversation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

KEMITRAAN Operations Director Saiful Doeana said the Youth Camp has been held from 2022 to 2024 every year. This year, around 100 participants attended.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe do this activity by expanding the network of participants so that it can become a forum for increasing the awareness of young people on climate change management, especially related to adaptation actions that can be carried out by all of us,\u201d Saiful said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A similar statement was made by Soegiharto, Head of Watershed Management and Natural Resources Conservation Division of the Central Java Provincial Government.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Climate change control, Soegiharto added, essentially aims to reduce ecological impacts. It also strengthens the economic and social resilience of communities through the creation of alternative livelihoods. Both of these require the role of the younger generation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe young generation is expected to contribute to society by actively creating innovations such as plastic processing, the use of digital technology in disaster early warning systems and climate information, and others,\u201d Soegiharto said. (zar)<\/p>\n\n\n\n
